The steve uliss culinary scholarship foundation
Created in honor of Steven Uliss, founder and owner of Firefly’s BBQ located in Marlborough, Massachusetts who passed away unexpectedly on November 22nd, 2024. From a very young age, Steve knew his calling was to be a restaurateur and as a first step to make this dream a reality, he attended Shawsheen Valley Technical High School to join their culinary program.
The support he received from Shawsheen Tech teachers and this program overall gave him the tools he needed to go on and attend Johnson & Wales University, double majoring in hospitality and business. After graduating in just three years, Steve was off and running making a name for himself in the restaurant industry. Shawsheen Tech was a huge part, and ultimately the first step, to all of the success and accomplishments Steve had for over 35 years.
This scholarship was created to help students with their future endeavors in the field of hospitality. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who embodies the same passion and dedication as Steve did in this industry. All students are encouraged to apply, the recipient will be chosen based on a number of factors.
Scholarship Credentials
Students must have an interest in majoring in culinary arts and/or business/entrepreneurship in the hospitality industry and have applications in process to a two year or four-year higher education program.
Scholarship recipients will receive $1,500 per year for a maximum of four years that they are enrolled in a college program. Each student is eligible to receive a maximum of $6,000 toward their four-year degree.
Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA and must provide a copy of annual transcripts to SUCF foundation by August 1st of each year to receive funding for the next school year.
